Fox News gives us a report that, unfortunately, isn’t an unusual one for the times we live in now.

School-Assisted Abortion a Shocking Lesson

March 25, 2010 – 10:37 AM | by: Dan Springer

Parents of school children in Seattle are learning a shocking lesson, when it comes to some very important decisions they don’t have a say. The mother of a 15-year old girl recently discovered that Ballard High School helped her daughter get an abortion and never informed her.

But it doesn’t end there. The school can also send children off campus for mental health care and drug addiction treatment without their parents ever knowing. Supporters say the confidentiality allows teens who are too afraid to tell mom and dad to get necessary treatment.

Parents signed consent forms for off-school treatment thinking it was limited to emergency health care when the parents could not be reached.  But the teen health clinics at 14 Seattle schools are about much more. They have a full-time registered nurse, counselor and nursing assistant on hand to help kids with more sensitive issues.

When the 15-year old girl’s pregnancy was confirmed, they counseled her on the options. The mother says they encouraged her to have an abortion and not tell her parents. She claims her daughter was told that if she informed her parents they would have to pay for the abortion, otherwise it’s free.

The teen clinics are administered by the King County Health Department. Officials say school clinic workers are supposed to encourage girls to include their parents in the decision. They will not comment on the specifics of the case.

As for the fact the girl was called a taxi and transported by herself to a clinic to have her abortion then driven back to finish her school day, officials say that’s not unusual. They would not say how many girls have been helped to have an abortion.

Washington State is one of thirteen states that does not have either a parental consent or parental notification law. Girls of any age can obtain an abortion without having to tell a parent.

State lawmakers included mental health care and drug counseling on the list of services kids can get without parental notification.

CNSNews has this story.  Instead of sticking to his (apparent) principles, Rep. Stupak folded into pressure from his fellow demons Democrats and voted for H.R. 3590 because Obama promised to sign an executive order affirming the ban of federal dollars funding abortions.  The problem with this is that federal law can override executive orders (the “law” isn’t permanent), and they can be rescinded at any time by the President.  Obama also promised to be more transparent and to change the way politics were conducted in Washington, D.C.  We’ve all seen how well that has gone.

Stupak Decision Blasted As ‘Unconscionable’

Monday, March 22, 2010
By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

(CNSNews.com) – Pro-life activists call it “regrettable” that Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) ended up abandoning those who stood by him in his opposition to taxpayer funding of abortion in the Democrats’ health care bill.

Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote.org, said Stupak’s decision to accept the promise of a presidential executive order as a solution to the abortion-funding issue is “unconscionable.”

“The Executive Order fix is a band-aid solution that fails to solve the fundamental problems in this bill, and can be repealed at any time, for any reason, by the president or future presidents. The order is likely to be challenged by pro-abortion groups, and could be struck down by the courts,” Burch said in a news release issued Sunday night.

“The Catholic Bishops along with CatholicVote.org and every major pro-life organization oppose this ‘fix.’  We have defended Rep. Stupak for months, but today we stand in protest of his decision,” Burch added.

Stupak’s last-minute decision to vote in support of the health care bill he opposed for so long made all the difference in Democrats’ getting enough votes for passage.

“Since I was first elected to Congress I have fought to provide quality, affordable health care for all Americans and I am proud to be able to vote for this historic legislation,” Stupak said Sunday in a message posted on his Web site. He said he’s witnessed the struggles that families and employers in his northern Michigan congressional district face under the current system.

“Although this legislation is not perfect and does not do everything I believe is necessary to reform our health insurance industry, it is a tremendous step forward for northern Michigan residents and for our nation,” Stupak said.  He said he looks forward to the president signing the health care bill into law.

Stupak has insisted from the beginning that no federal funding be used to subsidize insurance plans that cover abortion. Abortion should not be recognized as a benefit in federal health plans, he said.

To mollify Stupak, President Obama announced he would sign an Executive Order reaffirming that the Hyde amendment can not be circumvented and that no taxpayer dollars would be used to pay for health plans that cover abortion.

“I have said from the start I would not vote for health care reform without adequate protections in place to make sure the current law of no federal funding for abortion is maintained,” Stupak said on Sunday.  “The president’s Executive Order upholds the principle that federal funds should not be used to subsidize abortion coverage.”

President Obama promised to sign the Executive Order following passage of H.R. 3590.

But pro-life activists say the Executive Order on abortion funding will further politicize the issue. It will put decisions on taxpayer funding for abortion as well as conscience protections in the hands of Obama, future presidents, and Health and Human Services Secrtary Kathleen Sebelius, Burch said.

“Catholics have worked hard to make the protection of the unborn a two-party effort, and pro-life members of the Democratic Party encouraged these efforts over the last year, Burch noted. He said Stupak’s decision to accept an Executive Order “will be difficult to overcome.”

“We are convinced Rep. Stupak will come to deeply regret today’s decision,” Burch said.

Fox News reports to us that, during a union meeting in Los Angeles, Congressman Xavier Becerra, and several other people attending the meeting, start laughing when a supporter of a Republican candidate in a neighboring district requests that the meeting open with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Congressman Derided for Laughing at Suggestion to Recite the Pledge of Allegiance

By Joshua Rhett Miller

– FOXNews.com

A candidate for Congress in California’s 30th district is calling on Democratic U.S. Rep. Xavier Becerra to “clarify his reaction” caught on a YouTube video that depicts the lawmaker laughing at the suggestion that the Pledge of Allegiance be recited prior to a Feb. 20 meeting.

If the Pledge of Allegiance is a laughing matter, then the joke may be on a California congressman.

A Republican candidate for Congress in California is calling on U.S. Rep. Xavier Becerra to “clarify his reaction” after the Democrat was caught on a YouTube video laughing at a suggestion that the Pledge of Allegiance be recited prior to a union meeting in Los Angeles.

The 46-second video was captured by an unidentified staffer who accompanied candidate Ari David to a Service Employees International Union meeting on Saturday. By early Tuesday, the video had been viewed roughly 10,000 times.

David will not be opposing Becerra in November; he is running to replace Democratic U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman in a neighboring district. He said he attended the meeting in Becerra’s district in hopes of meeting with Waxman, who he said was an invited guest.

On the video, a man off camera can be heard saying: “I’m here for Ari David for Congress. Can we start this meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance?”

Hilarity ensues, most notably on behalf of an unidentified woman standing behind a lectern. Becerra, seated on stage, can be seen smiling and stifling his laughter as he bends slightly forward in his chair.

“No, I’m serious,” David’s staffer continues. “Congressman, shouldn’t we say the Pledge of Allegiance if we all want to be citizens? Wouldn’t that be appropriate to say the Pledge of Allegiance?”

“Sure, of course,” the woman on stage replies. “OK, let’s go for it — you lead.”

The pledge is then recited by everyone in the room, followed by raucous applause.

David told Fox News he found Becerra’s reaction “completely inappropriate,” adding: “I was stunned as an American that one of our members of Congress would act that way.

“Considering these people want immigration reform, shouldn’t they say the national anthem before a public meeting with their elected official there?”

If Becerra thought the situation was comical, it was the congressman’s “prerogative” to laugh, David said.

“Is it that offensive of a notion to be asked to say the Pledge of Allegiance?” the candidate continued.

Becerra defended the reaction in a statement to Fox News, saying:

“On the morning of February 20th, I was invited to address some 500 people gathered to discuss the human tragedy of a broken immigration system and the need to fix it. At some point during that meeting, a political operative for a congressional campaign asked if we could recite the pledge of allegiance. The meeting was already under way and the question was unexpected. It took us all by surprise. When the speaker explained that he was serious and asked me specifically if we could say the pledge, I said yes and gestured to the moderator, who then led the entire gathering in reciting the pledge.”

A quote from Norman Mattoon Thomas, six-time Presidential candidate of the Socialist Party of America:

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without knowing how it happened.”

He went on to say, “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”

John Wohlstetter has a posted on the recent grandstanding of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Obama Administration’s recent twist in the “torture scandal”.

April 24, 2009

LFTC – “Torture” & Nancy: What Did the Speaker Know, & When Did She Know It?

Nancy Pelosi now says she never knew of the harsh interrogation techniques in any detail.  Her comment brings to mind the question famously asked in 1973 by then Senator Howard Baker, at the Watergate Hearings, in his capacity as Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Watergate Committee: “What did the President know, and when did he know it?”  When the White House tapes were disclosed, and revealed that President Nixon knew more about his administration’s cover-up of the Watergate campaign scandal, his fate was sealed; Nixon resigned within days, as his support in Congress collapsed.

Peggy Noonan writes of torture hearings and the damage they surely would cause, in a riveting column:

Why have reservations, then, about release of the memos and the investigations that will no doubt follow?

For these reasons. Prisoner abuse has been banned. Mr. Obama himself, as he notes in the quote above, banned it. It’s over. The press, with great difficulty, and if arguably belatedly, did and is doing its job: It uncovered and revealed the abuse. The historians are descending, as they should. Hearings, commissions or prosecutors would suck all the oxygen out of the room and come to obsess the capital, taking focus off two actual, immediate and pressing emergencies, the economy and the age of terror. Hearings, especially, would likely tear up the country as we descended into opposing camps. They would damage or burden America’s intelligence services, and likely result in the abuse of those who acted from high motives, having been advised their actions were legal. As for the memo writers, some of whose constitutional theories were apparently tilted to the extreme in favor of the executive, it is hard to see how it would help future administrations, or this one, to have such advice, however incorrectly formulated, criminalized.

Finally, hearings would not take place only in America. They would take place in the world, in this world, the one with extremists and terrible weapons. It is hard to believe hearings, with grandstanding senators playing to the crowd, would not descend into an auto-da-fé, a public burning of sinners, with charges, countercharges, leaks and graphic testimony. This would be a self-immolating exercise that would both excite and inform America’s foes. And possibly inspire them.

Meanwhile, a resurgent Taliban is moving toward Islamabad and, possibly, the Pakistani nuclear arsenal; Israel and Iran are at loggerheads; and Iraq and Afghanistan continue as live and difficult wars. And that’s just one small part of the world.

What a time to open a new front, and have a new fight, and not about what is but what was.

Nancy has been quoted by several GOP Members in the room when she was briefed, asking if the detainees were being pushed hard enough for information.  This was shortly after 9/11, when Nancy feared she and the Golden Gate Bridge would be blown into the Pacific by al-Qaeda.  Nancy now feels safe, and has for years, and wants to extract (well, torture–slowly and with maximum pain) the maximum possible political damage for the GOP out of this mess.  If there is a Truth Commission on Torture, or what ever it will be called if created, I join those who call for Nancy to be sworn in as first witness.  And I dream that a tape will be discovered, with Nancy’s voice on it, calling for tougher pressure on detainees.

Wesley Pruden writes of Nancy:

Perhaps the president imagines that nobody cares much about what happens to lawyers, but he has set in motion something neither he nor anyone else can control. Some of the Democrats in Congress, eager now to join the mob, will regret what they cry for. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, for one, was a member of the House intelligence committee and sat in on super-secret briefings after Sept. 11. She concedes that she heard about waterboarding but she doesn’t remember exactly what she heard. Just like Barack Obama sleeping through 20 years of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s rabid sermons, Ms. Pelosi dozed through the briefings. Her colleagues on the intelligence panel say they remember her demanding that the CIA do more to get the “intelligence” to prevent another attack.

Republicans in the Senate, including John McCain and Lindsey Graham, are finally finding their voices. So is Joe Lieberman, a courageous Democrat. If we’re going to have hangings, Ms. Pelosi may be at risk of becoming our most famous female hangee since Mary Surratt paid her debt at the end of a rope for hanging out with John Wilkes Booth.

This probably will not happen.  But back in 1973 no one dreamed that the President of the United States would (a) tape his private meetings and (b) not burn the tapes.  The rest was, as they say, history.  Here the history is still to come.

Operation Rescue reports that the Kansas governor and Obama’s HHS Secretary nominee, Kathleen Sebelius, has vetoed a law that would have required Kansas’ abortionists to give a diagnosis justifying late-term abortions.  The move assists Sebelius’ greatest supporter, Abortionist George Tiller.

Topeka, KS – Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a bill late today that would have required abortionists to report the specific reasons for post-viability abortions, reinforcing her reputation as a pro-abortion extremist.

In her veto message, Sebelius falsely attempts take credit for the falling abortion rate in Kansas.

“Abortions have decreased in spite of her, not because of her. Abortions actually started to decline the year Operation Rescue moved our headquarters to Kansas – one full year before Sebelius was elected as governor,” said Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger. “Her false claims are a slap in the face to the hundreds of pro-life advocates who have worked tirelessly to expose her friend, late-term abortionist George Tiller, and provide help and practical alternatives to abortion-minded women outside Kansas abortion clinics.”

Sebelius’ veto will benefit only one abortionist in the state, and that is her political benefactor George Tiller. The bill would have required him to give the specific diagnosis used to justify a post-viability abortion. Kansas law requires that such abortions can only be done if the continuation of the pregnancy will result in “substantial and irreversible impairment to a major bodily function” of the pregnant woman.

“As it stands, no one can even check to see if Tiller is actually complying with the law,” said Sullenger. “Now Sebelius is helping Tiller continue to conceal the true nature of what is going on at that late-term abortion clinic. She apparently wanted to do Tiller one last favor before heading off to Washington.”

But Sebelius has endangered her recent nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services by underreporting the full amount of campaign contributions she received from Tiller.

Opposition to her nomination continues to grow. Today Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has asked President Obama to withdraw Sebelius’ nomination unless she answers more questions about abortion.

“Michael Steel is hardly an ardent pro-life supporter. The fact that he is now opposing Sebelius really shows how truly radical she is on abortion,” said Sullenger. “It’s a huge embarrassment for the state of Kansas when you look at her and realize that she is too extreme and too short on integrity even for the jaded political environment of Washington, DC.”

WorldNetDaily reports that the estimated turnout for the over 1,000 TEA parties held on Tax Day is about 1 million.

An estimated 1 million Americans participated in at least 1,000 tea parties, according to reports by organizers tabulating the nationwide numbers, with documented protests held in 50 states.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform told WND, “The Obama administration has awakened a sleeping giant.”

Tax Day Tea Party national event coordinator Amy Kremer told WND she has confirmed that more than 850 parties took place. She has at least 100 more reports in her e-mail inbox that have not been posted.

Asked how many people attended the events, she responded, “I would estimate it at over 1 million. I’m waiting on more numbers to come in from organizers right now. I can tell you it is absolutely over 750,000 right now.”

The largest protests occurred in Atlanta, Ga., with 15,000 participants. As many as 10,000 protesters participating in Sacramento, Calif., and Overland Park, Kan., according to data compiled by Americans for Tax Reform on more than 207 tea parties.

Americans for Tax Reform has established an Internet page on the group’s website where organizers of tea parties can submit attendance estimates to be included in the running tally.

Michael DePrimo, special counsel to American Family Association President Tim Wildmon, told WND that AFA’s tea party website, Tea Party Day, had 2,031 confirmations that tea parties were to be held in as many cities.

“Since yesterday, we have had 394 cities give us reports, many with photographs, about the tea parties that were held,” he said. “We have not been able to get all the information up. We expect more to come in as the days go by.”

Glenn Beck reported yesterday on his Fox News program that official estimates of the participation in the Tea Party held in San Antonio, Texas, reached as many as 20,000 people.

The Glenn Beck show broadcast on Fox News live on April 15, from the Tea Party held at the Alamo in San Antonio.

“The establishment in Washington, D.C., is terrified,” Norquist said. “There were no such demonstrations four months into the administrations of Democratic presidents Carter or Clinton.”

Norquist told WND that the Obama administration was taken by surprise by the nationwide protests because the administration had calculated increased government spending was supposed to be the popular part of President Obama’s economic stimulus plan.

Instead, Norquist said, the tea parties held in every state on Wednesday proved Americans nationwide are demonstrating in anger and disappointment against Obama administration plans for massive deficit spending.

“Imagine what happens when President Obama, House Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid begin to pay for their ‘spend-fest’ with higher taxes and inflation,” Norquist said.

Kremer said the mainstream media have completely neglected their duty to accurately report on this nationwide movement.

“It’s amazing that the mainstream media is reporting it the way that they are,” she said. “It’s just crazy. It’s basically just going to come down to us. We’re now reporting it ourselves because they are not reporting it accurately.”

Many say the mainstream media attempted either to ignore the protests altogether or characterized tea partiers as disgruntled Republicans unable to accept that “they lost” the 2008 presidential campaign or as “rich taxpayers” unwilling to pay their fair burden of taxes.

However, Kremer said she is constantly receiving reports from organizers about the movement’s resounding success.

“I think it was an absolute success,” she said. “We want to send a message to them: We hired them; we can fire them. They work for us. They seem to have forgotten that.”

She continued, “If it means we have to go after every incumbent in office from now until 2012, we will do that. But the American people are tired of sitting by, and they are starting to step forward and take notice.”
